Oklahoma Smokeshows - Our Favourite Zach Bryan Songs

In which our heroes talk nonsense about Zach Bryan

In today's show I'm joined by my partner in Country crimes, Jamie Onolfo as we discuss our favourite songs from Oklahoma's favourite son...Zach Bryan

I stumbled onto Zach Bryan when his 2023 self titled album popped up on a algorithm and it caught me a perfect time...just as I needed some sad songs about cowboys, lost loves and pick up trucks.

Over the last year he's quickly become a favourite for both me and Jamie so discuss our thoughts on his albums, look at some song rankings from around the world wide web and finally chat about our Top 5 Zach Bryan songs

A few of my contributions….

On Sad Cowboy Songs…..

I think he got me at the right time as well, so last September/October I was a pretty poorly boy, my mental health was in the toilet and all I wanted to do was sit quietly and listen to my sad cowboys so Jason Isbell, Charles Wesley Godwin and Zach Bryan and it felt like I was spending a lot of energy that I didn't have just to get through the days and these guys, or at least their music was a huge part of getting through that time....I ended up getting signed off work for 5 weeks and going into therapy but Zach Bryan was massive in keeping my head on straight until I found some proper help

On “28” from The Great American Bar Scene….

It's not that I was disappointed by The Great American Bar Scene, I just think it could have been much better but 28 is the first stand out track on there, I think there's probably 5 really good tracks on the album including this one and I think this is the song that kept bringing me back to the record after it hadn't really grabbed me in the beginning

On “68 Fastback”….

I guess there’s a theme with his work around being broken and the love of a good woman putting him back together again but this time it’s reversed and I guess it’s more about being happy in your own skin and doing the work to be healthy and strong…or maybe I’m reading too much into it!!

“To you I’m just salvage, haven’t ran right in years”…so that makes it ok to treat me like shit does it? And it’s a old country motif of muscle cars and rusty pick up trucks which always works doesn't it?

So if your a fan of Zach Bryan please feel free to add to our lists in the comment section below
